The Demise of Marilyn Handsome album is so underground that it has barely scratched the surface of the Indie Rap scene. Released in 2010 with virtually no promotion this collaborative album between Awol One, Capaciti and Cheap Cologne seemed to slip through the cracks as it was overshadowed by the artist’s more focused releases. Now, Indie Raps has the exclusive pleasure (and permission) to release this unknown, underground classic to you, for FREE.

“The Demise of Marliyn Handsome” was recorded at Cheap Cologne’s studio in Minneapolis in October 2008, It was recorded in a three to five day period and released digitally on June 14th of 2010.
It sat for nearly two years and collected dust for unknown reasons.

In addition of having the honor to release this album to you guys for free, I also got a chance to chat with Capaciti about the album and dig up some extra crunchy morsels of info on this mysterious release.

The History of Marilyn Handsome (from Capaciti)
I met Awol in 2007 during the recording of Blind Cinema Sessions and we made a song for that album (12 step program), Cheap Cologne and Awol go way back (they recorded a song on Cheap’s first album with Slug, Awol and Circus) so they were homies long before we met. While in town in 2007, the same weekend we made 12 Step Program, we went to Cheap Cologne’s and made a funny song called “Burnt Toast”.

I stayed in touch with Awol doing some shows here including three shows in Colorado with him and Josh Martinez. Then in 2008 we started to plan the “Can We Borrow Your DJ” tour with Ecid and we tossed around the idea of making more songs Since Cheap Cologne and I we’re friends along with Awol and Cheap’s relationship, I felt that it was a fit to go there and make songs! We had a great time making these songs and we laughed ALOT! Awol One is one of the most down-to-earth, dopest MC’s I’ve met, and in my opinion an underground hip hop legend!

We never had a chance to really promote or do shows because of life changes in both mine and Cheap’s live’s with having babies and all that around the time. My favorite track is “Wide Open” because it feature’s one of my favorite MC’s, Sleep. I also have a strong attachment to “Burnt Toast” cuz it’s one of our first, and a fun song. I tried to display all the styles I had at the time on this project so people could really hear who I was in many different ways. Another interesting fact is I had Carnage do back up vocals on “At Least” because the line “hustle the struggle don’t let the struggle hustle you” was in one of his songs and also a Desdamona song. So it was like a Hecatomb thing and it made sense to have him say it with me since it was his lyrics.

(When asked where the name came from, Capaciti thinks Cheap Cologne came up with it. However, there is an interview on their MySpace page where Awol states him and Cheap wanted to call it “The Blood Farts”, but Cap was against it so they broke up.)

Check it out.

As far as new projects go, we’re working on earlybirds. and will have some free stuff coming in 2012. We teamed up with a dude named Ethin from Hecatomb to form GOL!ATH to make an E.P.  just straight spittin some raw rap shit! I’m also pursuing my love of old country music and other genres (still hip hop though), and we’re making an album with all live instruments that is a little more experimental with the vocals, writing and beat making.
